Looking at the charts etc notice southern England (London at declination 51N Latitude) is still getting 26's and even 27's -its amazing its like us getting this at Anzac weekend for the corresponding altitude of the sun

With them being close to the landmass of Europe and Africa, they get some awesome warm air arriving from the south. I can vividly recall a 'heatwave' arriving when I lived there... the weather was typically dull, cool and overcast, I was sitting on a park bench and the sky cleared over about half an hour and the temperature went up quite a bit. The weather for the next couple of weeks were bliss.
