Very pleased we didn't get anywhere near the amount of rain that fall further south. Even then I've got water seeping out of the ground and I'm on flat land.
38mm here

Some major rain and flooding events in Chch during the 70s:

https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newsp ... 74/04/17/1

https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newsp ... 77/07/05/1

Latter event most probably contributed significantly to the fact that July 1977 was the wettest on record for the city until this year.

July 1977 was the wettest July at the Airport, but July 1933 was wettest July in the Gardens record which goes back to 1868. However, both have now been eclipsed by July 2022. The wettest ever month was 235mm at the Gardens in April 2014, and that record has now also been exceeded by July 2022.

Thanks Tony. Shame NIWA weren't quite as thorough when they made this claim today:

At least their nice little accompanying graph shows April 2014 marginally higher than May 1945.
