Re: Cold easterly airflow 7th - 12th Aug
Just not getting cold enough for any snow to eventuate here, only need another .5 of a degree less.
Will see what happens later in the evening.
N.B. Noticed that the wind has moved to the South West now and the temperature has moved up a degree since.

Re: Cold easterly airflow 7th - 12th Aug
The rain up here in the north island seems to be much further south that the recent forecasts suggested it would be. We were not expecting any rain and it to stay well north of us but we are in the thick of it. So it’s further south by about 100km at least.
Question then. What (if any) impact will this have on moisture feeds to the South Island? Will it impact the snow situation?

Modelling has colder air moving in tonight for the SI also any heavy precipitation will bring snow levels down.
Heavy rain here this evening.

Yes... a lot wetter than I expected here. New rain gauge tipper seems to be performing pretty good so far, 25mm since midnight.

Re: Cold easterly airflow 7th - 12th Aug
Noticing that the wind has moved slightly back South Easterly again and the wind starting to increase also, temperature has just started to level off after increasing from a low of 1.1°C.
Hopefully this might mean we get the colder air we need.

A tiny little gust front with the southerly change at 2pm. Looked more springy type skies with it. Good to see!

Re: Cold easterly airflow 7th - 12th Aug
The great snow of 2022 has produced a bit more snow than Ashburton, but not by much. currently 0,3deg and lightly snowing, first time this morning doing my cold thermogenesis that I had snow falling while up to my neck in my pond
