Re: General January Weather
Another fine sunny day eventuated at last with a maximum temperature of 25.6C with moderate easterly winds this afternoon.
Again some weak instability to the west along the foothills.
Some thunderstorm activity in inland Marlborough this afternoon, for the record.
Probably back to the clagg with the southerly change in the morning

Re: General January Weather
Not sure anything is going to develop inland today, still, its only 4.30 so time yet, thought about hopping in the car if things started looking worthy of driving inland towards Lake Sumner

Another cloudy but mild day with nothing much happening. Lots of boring flat cloud layers around.
22,4C for today.

Re: General January Weather
Low cloud overnight gradually clearing away during the morning with a few sunny spots. Don't know about inland, nothing happening at the moment with no substantial uplifting going on. Maybe later. Don't want the 15mm hail that MS is forecasting.

Some distant shower cloud tops east/southeast of here. Warm for central and eastern parts of Auckland today, 27-29C maximums, a comfortable dew point today though.

Cloudy along the foothills but nothing developing and clearing away later to become fine and clear.
Today's maximum was 28C.

Re: General January Weather
Definitely on the gradual increase in temperature here, 1pm and 26C with a light NE probably about to switch Northerly and then NW from late afternoon.
The southerly tonight will be strong as the cooler wind hits the heat from the day, slight thunder risk especially for South canterbury but just general showers elsewhere by dawn on Saturday.
Sunday evening has a low risk through South to mid canterbury, nothing too major, but given the time of year and some cooler upper air there could be the odd spark.
The fire ban kicks in today here, with most areas going into a high fire risk.
Busy today cutting some fire breaks while I can, even though the machines have spark arrestors.

Re: General January Weather
Did you not get the NW today? It looked like the coastal winds held out down your way with the radar bug lines.
The strong gusty NW hit around half 4, then had a few brief spots of rain from the main front.
Southerly knocked on the door around 9pm, some strong gusts out there still.
The temperature at half 4 went from 24C to 29C in less than 20 minutes when the sun came out along with the NW.

Re: General January Weather
Foggy here this morning but that cleared away to become a warm day with high cloud.
Becoming hazy as the day wore on with increasing high cloud from the west.
Southerly came through around half past seven pm, windy at first but eased away later.
Cloud moving in making way for another day of clagg tomorrow,
Today's maximum was 25.3C when the sun came out early this afternoon.

Southerly proper arrived around 8pm, had to scurry round shutting windows before they were shut for me.
