Temperatures hovering on 30C the last half an hour, winds have been constantly shifting between breezy NW and SW so must be under some area of stubborn convergence.
Some scrappy cumulus forming, will keep an eye out this afternoon and evening for possible isolated storms.
The models have increased the moisture for overnight now so hopefully we get it.

Currently 28.8 degrees C here, strengthening southerly wind and cumulus popping up all across the sky. Radar looks active around Timaru.

Yes not often you get such changeable wind in Chch as shown from MS attached

Storms forming quite quickly now in the general area of Peel Forest/Mayfield. That spot has been very active this season.

Ya, interesting cloud-form to the west.
Have just brought in the washing, it can do what it likes now. ;-)
Gusty winds mostly from the southeast. 29.4°C.

Very active considering the core is well inland from town.

There seems to be another centre to this storm out there. Just saw a lightning-flash from my south-facing kitchen window, only 3 seconds to the thunder.

Temp. now 21.0°C.

Nice cell moving up the plains, going against a now 30kmh NE perfect feeder when it's still 27C.

Wish the wind would start to turn from the south here in Chch so I can have a tailwind on my commute home on my Mountain Bike.

I am not sure why it isn't severe warned, very rare to see green on the radar.

Wind has now swung strong southerly here, some big TCU went up fairly quickly after.

I share similar thoughts. Yes the CU went up rapidly down here when the wind picked up. Storm has cleared here now. I’ve just driven across town to work and the steam coming off the road made it hard to see in some spots. Blue sky returning. Any chance of more action later this evening?

Heavy shower closing in from the south west, wouldn't be surprised if we hear thunder soon.

Quite the downpours for you guys up there, hope you are all safe and keeping watch on the local rivers.
Something we could do with down here.

Looks like an area of thunderstorms forming into South Canterbury now, this should move through as abit of an upper trough tonight throughout most of the region.
Southerly has dropped now although should increase again later.

Finally getting some much needed rain here, 3mm in the last 15 minutes with more to come.
Nothing like walking outside to the smell of rain hitting warm dry concrete and soil :D

A warm day today with light southerly breezes this morning and this afternoon. fine with scattered cloud forms some unusual.
28.4C the maximum for today.
Clouding more during the afternoon with it coming onto drizzle as the SE freshened and becoming much cooler from 6pm with low cloud and clagg moving in and becoming much cooler, down to 14C by 10pm. No thunder here, sadly.
