I'm trying to look at some of the pws observations, although it seems very localised, and hard to determine how accurate some of these readings are.

The radar has been showing persistent intense rain cells in the hills just west of Mangawhai, creeks and streams in that area will be in flash flood.

I dunno about that one, shows 170mm in an hour earlier which would absolutely smash the NZ official record... PWS a few km to the east has half the amount :-k

Looking at the radar over the last few hours, there has been a red blob right around that area. Has eased off over the last half hour or so to a rather light 20mm/h.

Thankfully that last band seemed to break up over Auckland itself. Looks pretty bad up Mangawhai way. Will see what happens over the next few hours..

Looks like some heavy rain developing out in the gulf this evening, may still catch some good falls here before this is over

Another weather station only a few kms up the road is also showing 350mm so there’s a chance it could be legitimate…

They had persistent thunderstorms over the hills near Mangawhai so there will have been some very big falls in places through that area.

Also a Northland Council gauge not too far away showing 350mm.

Quite localised, and if you that pws was in the right spot under that convergence then it might be accurate.

Some great footage, but a sad to see more damage to houses though.
I did love the little kid in the nzherald video. “It’s a Tornato!”

A thunderstorm risk showing up for Northland/ Auckland late tomorrow and on Monday. Cool upper levels, increasing moisture and convergence. See how it looks on the day.

NIWA confirmation of these huge numbers. It's been an insane time for you poor folk up north.

An amazing total but not surprised going by yesterday's radar.
We are planning to spend a couple of nights up at Waipu Cove next week so it should be interesting to see what the damage looks like in that area.

Noticed a large rotating storm yesterday morning nth of great barrier Is on the radar so no surprise. That storm looked a lot larger and more intense than the waihi event.
