Mt Hutt were really counting on this system. There is basically no snow up there at the moment.

The skis would get quite hot if you took to the Mt Hutt slopes this morning

They may still get a quickfire 20 cm,but were banking on for 50 plus over a few days.

Model consistency has been key up until this morning. It seems the high now wants to push in earlier and has also warmed those upper air temperatures.
A switch from snow to as low as 300m to about 500m, and 60mm for Otautahi to around 10mm.
Will see what happens on the next runs.

Yes, it looks less good for them now. The models have the low tracking west of the SI now rather than to the east.

Settled into Tekapo this afternoon, fabulous weather. We are waiting on tomorrow with an Orange Snow Warning issued. That will be a change from the usual white stuff

Yes, and not always accurate for the south either. And another bug bear, different icons used, depending where in the country you are, for the same wording!

Wind from the south has freshened, temp. now 9.6°C; cloud lowering and moving past faster than before, can see main cloud bank to the south, can't be far away.

Cloud clearing away overnight with slight frosting this morning.
Gradually clouding up during the day with boring SC layers keeping the temperature cool at 11C.
Some snow along the foothills. Fine evening and calm.

The current system has been a fizzer here, just a few showers from it, total 5mm last couple of days at my place. Saturday nights frontal rain fell apart before reaching here.

I think this happened on Sunday 4th June, but I am not sure. The article says 'waterspout', but this is not clear from the picture - copy attached.

Location is given as Bream Bay which I think is on the east coast of 'Northland'.

Article said it was about 12:30pm yesterday (Monday 5th June).

And yes, although the photographer says it was 'pointier and closer to the water' before she took the photo, she doesn't say if it actually contacted the water?
