Hi all
I noticed the following in NIWA's May summary "It was the warmest May on record in Aotearoa New Zealand. The nationwide average temperature in May 2023 was 13.1°C. This is 2.0°C above the 1991-2020 May average from NIWA’s seven station temperature series which begins in 1909". Does this mean the 1991-2020 normals are finally available? I missed the announcement if there was one.
thanks
Jeremy

Re: 1991 - 2020 normals
Yes, the 1991-2020 normals, which not surprisingly are generally a little warmer than the 1981-2010 normals, have been available for at least a year and NIWA has been using them in their climate summaries since the start of this year.
So May 2023 was 2.0°C above the 1991-2020 May national average, or 2.3°C above the 1981-2010 average.

Ah ok, thanks. Has NIWA issued any summary tables or do I need to delve into CliFo?

No updated online summary tables that I'm aware of and I suspect it may be some time before they do. So you'll probably have to 'delve into CliFo' for any locations that you need.
