Warm November day in Ch'ch
The southerly has just come through, cooling us down a little. I recorded 30.2C at 11am which is a November record for my station, my records go back to 2000.
Looking back its the warmest day since the 20th Feb when we endured 30.9C.
Tony T may be able to have a peek at the climate records to see where today might sit in the top November temps for Christchurch.
As Jason has mentioned earlier, the nor'wester was quite noisy here about 4:30 to 5am. Max gust here was 54km/h with a temperature of 20C.

Yes the strong NW around 4am blew the roof off the chookhouse plus a flowering clump branch off one of our cabbage trees
I only managed to squeeze 28.2C in my Stevenson's screen today around noon today.
The southerly came over then too but the temperature sat around the 28C mark until it died out and the ENE sea-breaeze effect took hold from 2:30pm. Down to 17C.
Interesting the maximum temperature for yesterday DID get to 25C but it was just before my readings time at 9am.
I do traditional 9am to 9am readings

Interesting to hear about the damage in the Oxford area and at John's place.
I can't recall a good NW blast here since December 1995, perhaps Boxing Day. I was watching the window in the ranch slider that faces out to the NW bending in slightly and I was wondering in it was going to blow in.
While we've had some short gusty NW'ers since, I can't remember one as strong as that one.
Perhaps this summer...?

SEVERE WESTERLY GALES ABOUT HAWKES BAY AND WAIRARAPA NOW EASING
Severe westerly gales that have been pounding Central Hawkes Bay and
Northern Wairarapa are now on the wane. Earlier today, a wind gust
of 150 km/h was recorded at Castlepoint and on the Takapau Plains, the
MetService measured a 130 km/h gust. Although the area is still
experiencing strong winds, winds are expected to continue to ease off
tonight and peak wind speeds should no longer reach severe gale force.

I will see what I can find out about 30deg days in November but I suspect its not very unusual.
The unusual thing for me was the E wind change which came through mid afternoon. The windows on the eastern side of our house slammed shut, and the sea was whipped up like a washing machine. Mean speeds were 25-30 knots for about 20 mins, from the E to SE. I have never seen anything like it before. Changes like that from the SW are fairly common, but from the E is new to me. Mean speeds were higher than we had from the NW all day prior. And not a cloud in the sky with the change either, also rather unusual.

Have seen this quite a few times down in coastal Otago. Very strong Easterlies lasting only 15 to 20 mins after hot weather.
Occured when the hot pre Frontal NW dropped out.
