An aspect of sunshine hrs is the affect of latitude on day length. There are more day light hrs in the south of the country in Summer, it is the reverse in Winter with longer day light hrs in the north.
Edit ,Sunrise and sunset times for Kaitaia and Invercargill mid month
Kaitaia 6.27am - 8.43pm, Invercargill 6.13am - 9.37pm

NIWA's Cliflo data-base has a few windrun stats for some sites. Below is Chch Aero's mean monthly wind speeds in terms of metres per second for the last few years, along with its 1991-2020 normals for comparison. Note that Chch Aero's windiest months are usually Dec and Jan and its least windiest Jun and Jul, although its all-time windiest month was Nov 1982 with a mean speed of 6.3 m/s from records since 1942.

Note that that MS site on Whangaporaoa's cape only has records from 2000, not 1982 as stated by NIWA. It looks like they've included Tiritiri Matangi Island's temp data from 1982, which is nearly 6 km further east and always records lower Jan mean temps than Whangaporaoa.
