Very cold SW here in Wigram. Off to the Crusaders game tonight, thankful I chose the southern stand (north facing) stand.

Currently under a fast developing shower, quite unstable up top.
See there has been some heavy showers maybe hail near Ashburton before.

Edit: possible small storm near Rakaia currently.
Just took this photo looking NE with some quite strong TCU tops.

It’s both actually. They have lumped them into the same warning. If you open it on the MS browser and scroll down, there’s two warnings. Side note, the Ashburton cell is dropping golf balls plus at Wakanui.

They added the chch one after the Ashburton one. Nice to see the storms after the morning sun. Had some rumbles of thunder and some light hail here.

Here in Parklands, got a great view of it. But was over pretty quick. Saw some flashes and got a brief burst of moderate rain, no hail.

The storm near the Rakaia River is looking very impressive at the moment. The strongest of the two cells by far.

The cell heading towards Lincoln way will probably clip southern Christchurch within the hour, also has large hail in it.
For the record I have a welt on my hand from a hailstone, when I say welt it looks like a swelled up mosquito bite :lol:

Updated from MS
Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Area: Selwyn, Waimakariri, Christchurch City

Forecast: At 04:30 pm, MetService weather radar detected severe thunderstorms near SOUTHBRIDGE, LEESTON and IRWELL.

These severe thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast, and are expected to lie near LINCOLN, ROLLESTON, SPRINGSTON, TAITAPU and TEMPLETON at 05:00 pm and near CHRISTCHURCH, KAIAPOI and BELFAST at 05:30 pm.

These thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by very heavy rain and large hail.

Very heavy rain can cause surface and/or flash flooding about streams, gullies and urban areas, and make driving conditions extremely hazardous.

Large hail can cause significant damage to crops, orchards, vines, glasshouses and vehicles, and make driving conditions hazardous.

The National Emergency Management Agency advises that as storms approach you should:
- Take shelter, preferably indoors away from windows;
- Avoid sheltering under trees, if outside;
- Get back to land, if outdoors on the water;
- Move cars under cover or away from trees;
- Secure any loose objects around your property;
- Check that drains and gutters are clear;
- Be ready to slow down or stop, if driving.
During and after the storm, you should also:
- Beware of fallen trees and power lines;
- Avoid streams and drains as you may be swept away in flash flooding.

Issued: 4:40pm Fri, 26 Apr

Saw the dark cloud approaching from the southwest just after 3pm, but went into the movie theatre in Riccarton before any precipitation hit.

Chased the lesston thunderstorm this afternoon, reasonable hail but I say no larger than 10- 13mm
Saw a couple of CGs and captured one IC.

Saw some good hail pics from kaiapoi this afternoon however I think big chunks were hail joined together. Still a strong storm though!

Thank for that Simon. Fine and windy in Cape town and we did see giraffes and rhinos but no lions. India was fine and hot but we did experience a thunderstorm with hail up in the Shimla district which is in the higher latitudes near the Nepal border near the Himalayas.
....anyway back to the subject, another blue dome day was experienced here today with a light wind from the south to SE.
Warm in the sun but only 15.4C for today.

It was, especially to see how people live in cultures different to ours. I couldn't get over how much rubbish and plastic is scattered everywhere in the streets and even the countryside in india and Sri Lanka >_<
...anyway, today was another fine and warm day to end off April. 20.6C with it being calm for much of the day.
Cloud increasing this afternoon and evening.

Reminds me of my sister inlaw saying while she was in Ho Chi Minh city, she saw large number of piles of plastic bottles by a local river, she asked the driver if were they for recycling, he said no, they are there to be washed away when the monsoon arrives.
