Re: General May Weather
Surface flooding in Eastern Christchurch, I'm not surprised given the rate of rainfall in some areas on very dry land, over 30mm in some gauges now

Re: General May Weather
I think you'll find the airport is the "localised" site today.
Falls are fairly widespread and much wetter across much of the City, particularly in the arc from the north and east, through town and round the Port hills and adjacent areas around to the SW.

Re: General May Weather
The flooding will also be because of autumn leaves in the storm water systems, can often make even a moderate rainfall look serious.
But this is a E-SE feeder which usually gives us more of those thicker light rain bands.
Out west near the airport certainly hasn't been heavy but as I say thick light rain, with some moderate rain and big drops at times.
Having said that is getting more on the heavy side now.

Low centre currently sitting in Hawke's Bay just west of Mahia Peninsula. Looks impressive on the radar.

Yeah it's a cool looking radar, also very heavy rain expected if that band curls nice and tight and feeds rain into Hawkes Bay for the next 24 hours

Re: General May Weather
Observing at the moment: some cauliflower clouds bubbled up to the east, just off the coast by the look of it.
Also looks like a patch of fog to the south, and maybe foggy cloud to the west as well.
7.8°C, sun trying to show beyond clouds but is now only forty minutes from setting.

Got to 10C today, back into double digit highs, was some very brief drizzle in the morning, 0.4mm in total.
Tomorrow should see frosts first thing, followed by a cold change and some showers early afternoon.

Dry here all day too, still dull and cold though. Planted some grasses today, found only the top couple of cm was damp, bone dry under that

Certainly cold today, started on 1C, got to a max of 8.4C hourly, though didn’t get much in the way of rain from the front.
