Four more 40°C plus temps recorded in north WA's Kimberly region today, including its largest town, Broome for the first time since records began there in 1897. They were 40.7°C at Mandora, 40.5°C at Broome, 40.2°C at Fitzroy Crossing and 40.0°C at Yampi Sound.

That's now a total of 16 temps of 40°C or more recorded over the last 4 days. Before that, Australia had only ever recorded 40°C or more 4 times during winter and August.

Birdsville just smashed Queensland's winter and August state record - currently 39.1°C and climbing (previous record was 38.5°C at Bedourie in August 2009).

Edit: Make that 39.7°C... 8-o

Qld's previous winter and August sate record was also surpassed by 38.7°C at Ballera and 38.6°C at Windorah.

21 degrees at 6am. Not unusual here, we usually get a day like this in September. Maximum of 25 expected. Im not sure if the sun is expected today so that will be the reason for the 25 maximum?

We've had so many windy days lately as well. Some gusts over 100kmh reported in parts of Melbourne Monday morning.

Had storms pass through Melbourne yesterday too. Missed me on the outer north but I managed to observe some fork lightning hitting the ground to the south when
I went for a walk to get a clearer view. I can't complain about that because usually conditions or looking out my bedroom window prevent me from getting a good view. In hindsight I should of taken my push-bike to the hill nearby

Following the recent record heat, we have an instance of record cold om the eastern side of Australia. The temperature fell to -6.9°C at Canberra Airport on the morning of Monday 16th September 2024 and this is a record September (and Spring) low for this site which commenced in 2008. The previous day maximum (15th) was just 12.9°C). Note, the previous record low for this site for September was -6.8°C on 1/9/2018.

A site titled Canberra Airport Comparison, which operated from 1939-2010, had a September record low of -6.4°C set on 10th September 1982. Therefore the 16th of September this year probably saw the coldest Spring morning in that part of ACT in the thick end of a century.

Think you mean Sep 01, 2012 for Canberra Aero's previous record of -6.8°C...

South Australia's capital city, Adelaide (West Terrace/Ngayirdapira) also set a new September (and spring) record low Tmin of 1.3°C on Tuesday morning (17th). Its previous record was 2.0°C on Sep 15, 1908, from records since 1887.

I had a great stint of spring like weather after getting back from holiday, but it's been mostly around 15 I guess with a few nice days for the last week and a half or 2.
2 blankets needed (not even close to a frost though), and the coldest maximum was 11 or so at viewbank.

I think the melbourne city site had the coldest September maximum in a few decades on the weekend.

September average max is +- 0.0 at the moment and sitting a degree below august
