Same here Steve.
Congrats on picking out TS for us today =D> =D> =D> =D>
Recorded a few sferics but only heard distant thunder on the 2nd one just after 6pm.
Interesting sky!
Very black to the south of here about 5pm with a ENE blowing, then at 5:45pm, a squall moved over delivering 1.3mm in 3 minutes, which qualifies for a 'heavy fall'. There was small pea sized hail with that.
Wind here was SE to S with fractus cloud moving in from the NE.
Sky looked very black towards the Hillsborough area, suspect hail with that lot.
A bit cooler now with the sun shining and just scraps of cloud at the moment.
Altogether 2.5mm falling in a half and hour period constitutes a heavy fall of precipitation herer in Christchurch.
Calm outside now with a slight hint of a Ne redeveloping and 10.5C :)

Chch detector is at http://www.templeton.gen.nz/weather/StormVue.html

Both the Auckland and Christchurch have links to each other and to the correlated strikes when both pick up the same thing...
