Posted too soon, just had a thunderstorm pass over, couldnt see any flashes as it seems to have been CC lightning with no deep thump at the end

I have to say that Coalgate/ Hororata storm was one of the top few storms I have ever been under. Incredible experience

Re: Storms 21st - 22nd and 23rd Dec
Another good day but again hard to get good photos.
That thunderstorm near oxford was a goodie and we had to core punch through it in aim to get on the other side of it for photos etc. Very heavy rain and two very close CGs hit near us in the car. By time we got through it and in the clear to get into a view point the thunder was non stop.
The thunderstorm up near you Richard happend late but that was expected as we expected the storms to form mid Canterbury and the instability to slowly push north late in the day. There was good values in the models up your way about 7pm tonight meanwhile the stuff south was decaying.

Re: Storms 21st - 22nd and 23rd Dec
The storm that Mike and Aaron got in front of formed a few k's west of me and by the time it was over head it started to produce intracloud lightning directly overhead, Ive never experienced that form of lightning before, though Ive seen CC lightning that is connected to CG's further off in the mountains. Once it got closer to Mike and Aaron it became quite active producing CG's. Never saw any flashes of light either when it was overhead, all within the cloud. Like you Razor an incredible experience that I wont forget.

Nothing (rain or thunderstorms) reached Akaroa, but could see the dark clouds to the west in the afternoon.
