Distant but bright Cg's from this cloud as we drove south through Waikato this afternoon(photo), this cloud is about Hamilton. Drove into the storm line at Huntly. Had thundery weather on the drive back to Ak.
Have heard there was a Tornado in the Rotorua area ?.

Quite a superstorm indeed... rivalling 16th September 2005, and 26 November 2003 of recent years. The greatest asset today was the impressiveness of how thick the forked lightning was, and the decibel readings were very extreme.
Was oh so close to recording it on camera :(

Flash flooding in parts of Auckland this afternoon

Dont quite get what u mean?? Lightning is only a couple of cm thick??

Did anyone see One News Weather? showed damage from a tornado in Rotorua I think it was.

edit: It was Rotorua,not wellington.

Yes.. but it was highly concentrated with voltage. Which makes it look bigger :)

Here's an example of what I saw today, but closer and during the day.

Skies starting to 'activate' again, isolated heavish showers still lingering in the southwest.

Cheers

Do you mean the duration of the bolt Foggy?like it dances 2 or three times instead of one quick strike.
Rain here and still raining good for gardens indeed 8) stock up for rest of summer 10.2mm so farr and with more rain at the end of the week
It should hopefully be our turn sometime within next month to get a beast like the NI storm today but time can only tell. ;)
Cheers
Jason.

More 'freak' thunderstorms on the way for NZ this week into next week.
There looks to be a good chance for Canterbury again about Thurs.
