Dust Storm

Does this count as a storm... Happened on the Desert Rd on Sunday... 8)

Ruapehu just visible through it... Had to stop as it was so thick at times... The wind was horrendous... 8)

Depends how windy it was... looks great! :)

Did you witness any dustdevils in there?
Thinned out a tad...
Is that the Waiouru AWS up there? Or a Transit NZ weather station?

No to any dust devils... You could see the dust storm for about 15 - 20 kms before ya got into it...

Windy!!!! It was windy enough to slow down to around 50kph at times...Hard to estimate wind speed though...

Had to stop and then basically go at 10kph for approx 200mtrs through the dust...

I think the solar panel is part of a Automatic Weather Station.

It sure does :D
Interesting as to what was the cause?
It is a deserted area so a lot of dust is likely espcially after a lack of rain in the area, also the dryness of the wind over the area.
Was it a westerly?

Yep a westerly... Blowing straight off the mountain...

There was an area in a depression where there was no plant life at all... The dust was coming right out of there... 8)

If I took a pic of it, you could see where the dust came from... But I didnt... :?
