Is it true that today as mild as it is also with an increasing easterly flow the windchill factor in Whakatanne is 25.2C? Its just almost unheard of this late in the season unless its a fohn wind in Canterbury,Hawkes Bay etc.

Looks like the high in Whakatane today was 26.2C, very warm for April.
I have no idea how representative that reading is of the wider Whakatane area.

According to my stats the average daily maximum in April is 20.5C,
the highest April max ever recorded is 26.4.

http://www.stuff.co.nz has 19C with a 11km/h easterly for Whakatane updated at 4:30pm. Presume this is the 3pm data.
Not sure where this is taken...airport?

Gusty NE winds today in Christchurch after a period of light mostly southerlies for the past few days.

the main problem with temperature sensors not in a stevenson screen is direct heating by the sun...or reflected solar radiation
that is what happens with this station
so yes the reading is likely to be too high
but there would have been a fohn effect in the whakatane area

the rotorua site has shiftedm now the url is:

i need to get the owner of the station to set the starting rain values/totals

whakatane gets a surprisingly good rain total, but thats from heavy falls from the NW to the NE /E direction
W and SW through to SE and is a relatively dry wind

sunshine hours are second highest in the country (2200 or so)
