GraemeWi wrote:Still in Hanmer - the snow looks to have fallen to fairly low levels, I'm going to see if I can find any in town before I hit the road.
There was no snow in Hanmer town itself, light dusting down as low as about 500m around the town.

Heading towards the Lewis Pass I saw the first snow at 460m, and near the natural hotpools by the road at Sylvia Flats (600m) it was very thick and very photogenic.

Quite a lot of snow up to the pass but once on the western side, the snow virtually vanished.

Yesterday was t shirt and shorts weather in the sounds 8)

Back to Auckland tomorrow so that will terminate any potential for interesting weather in Auckland for the next couple of months.

Cheers,

G

Back in Auckland now, but have a couple of pictures of the Lewis Pass area during the cold snap - they were taken on the morning of the 15th.

There are still the odd patch of snow around in sheltered parts of Tekapo and the vicinity. Daytime air temps have remained low enough to allow it.
