The stratocumulus is right up the west of the country and is likely to persist well into next week given the fact that the breeze will stay onshore southwester. It should burn back a bit in the afternoons.
This anticyclonic southwester is the standard weather type for our region for this time of year. Nothing unusual or unseasonal about it Michael. ;)

It just seems to be more dreadful year after year I can remember in the 1970's and early 80's it didnt go on so late in the year ;)
We used to get a wet week during December but November often used to be hot and the gales didnt persist "every day" or at least easterlies were more often

You should try Invercargill where it has constantly blown and rained all of November. I have had only two days without rain this month. Winds consistently around 20 kts,Gusts anywhere between 30-45 kts ,bleak with .showery periods. Temps in lo teens or high single digits. We can see the sun this morning but still blowing 20 kts gusting 30.You name it there has been days with hail, gales, squalls ,thunderstorms, sleet etc. Maybe December will be better!!

You are like NW England and we are like the southwest coast of England I guess for the type of weather the last 3 months. It was better in August ;)

That must of been a mistake all-right. I was up at Cass this WE at a railways re-union near Arthur's Pass and it was rather hot up there in the sun. About 27-28C like down at Alex probably

Well the first day of summer may bring the first 30-degree plus day for Alexandra :)

Yesterday was mild with the temp hitting 28.4 degrees.

Last night was warm with the minimum only hitting 14.6, so with the northwesterly air stream starting to move over the south island conditions are perfect.

Temp now is 23.8 with clear blue skies and no wind

P.S i hope the weather improves up in Auckland Michael ;)

weather up here not too bad today....the SW wind actauly died this morning for a few hours, but its building again now./..but the clouds are coming in from the NE, so the ridge is to the south of us all of a sudden....not too much cloud around either :)...so not bad for the first day of summer,....
and i thought the swer was going to be with us for longer than it was...

About Bloody time We got 20-21c here finally today and no nasty SW or not enough to be annoying :) I see the long range forecast says "cloudy periods everyday" so it means high pressure moving enough north to give us awful SW and probably mean showers too.Hope theyre wrong ;)

Nice to see the cloudy SWester gone alright.
Looks like a settled week ahead for AK with temps getting into the mid 20's end of the week. ;)

Slight chance of isolated afternoon cb's/ts inland North Island on Wednesday afternoon. Depends on the amount of moisture around on that day.

Warmish day here in ChCh even though with the Ene bowing, not as hot as what it what it was at Cass yesterday.
What's the bet that Waipara gets the max with, say 31
Temp here around 22-23C with the Ene.
