I think it was around 3-4° during heavy snow this morning, in line with what TonyT and RWood reckoned...unfortunately I can't check the weather stations because they are down...not due to the power outages here, as they are all on UPSs, but because the host is down, and the host is in Auckland! Now that's irony for ya!Flutterbye wrote:I haven't lit the fire because the sun is warming up the house nicely.
15 cm of snow on the ground and still snowing.

Just back from Wanaka and Hawea no work for me today.
About 5-10cm in Wanaka
10cm in Hawea.
No snow in Cromwell, Clyde and Alexandra.
Snow out Omakau (3cm), Naseby (10cm) St Bathans (10cm).
I reckon the snow arrived here from the north west not the south.
9mm of rain in Alex from 8am yesterday till 8am today. YEEHA

So did Akaroa (and eastern parts of Chch I've heard) - persistent rain, plus some sleet from late morning (where I was at 50m asl). Snow level dropped from about 600m early morning to 300m by early afternoon. A thick coating at Hilltop, but not too deep. Low lying areas bare until just before Halswell. Not as thick in central city as last September but still quite alot. (probally a little more to come - probably too cold to rain)It sure sounds like it, since I've been told Queenstown missed out too.
Couldn't get on the internet until I got back to Chch about 20 minutes ago. - XTRA was down (Auckland power cut?)

I was driving ........No I was snowploughing in my landcruiser State 73 Colagate to Methven this afternoon for work. The snow was 1.5 metres on roadside and 1/2 metre on the road. The snowplough had been through 2 hours before and there were hardly any signs of tracks.
The snow levels in he Methven/Inland area are reasonably good. Drove back from Greymouth this morning through the Lewis Pass at 04:00 am. There was absolutely no snow until Waikari.
