Xmas cyclone for the top end

Unread post by GraemeWi »

Lots of talk on the aussie forums on the potential cyclone forming... quite spooky timing as I've just finished reading 'Tracy' which is a nicely researched book on the 1974 cyclone that wiped out Darwin.

Will be interesting to watch, but hope it doesn't cause any damage to anyone.

Cheers,

G

Metars from Darwin airport here

http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/YPDN.html

For those who don't know what a metar is....it is a routine hourly weather
observation done for aviation. Gives wind, visibility, weather, clouds
temperature, barometer. ;)

Their upper air sounding looks interesting. Tropopause up around 16,500m. Thats the height the cb's would grow to.
