Need to be able to get this on the radio though. Listening to the obs though would drive you crazy but warnings as they are issued would be useful.

yes, that would be a good idea....seemingly you can get them for 25$ US from Walmart

if an el nino develops, then next years tornado season could be a good one.....as i think el nino years are better tornado years (to do with the jet stream position?)?

You could be right Brian. The big problem in this most recent season was the lack of upper wind. A Jet Steam plonked over the top of Kansas next spring would be perfect. :)

Or you guys could become hams and take radios that would also let you talk directly to the national weather service... Or maybe just take a ham with you ;) :D

Oops, skip the message above this one and this post might make sense

It'll only be a couple of months after Jess's wedding, so it will be a major financial for me to go, but I'd love to. Still considering my options and seeing if I will be able to afford to.

As for one of these guys becoming a ham, it's not hard these days, all they basically need to do is learn the answers to some multi choice questions, it's nothing like the three hour written exam I sat.

Will do any planning in Jan / Feb.
I'm only interested in going back for Tornados. Just prior to travel it would have to be looking okay for Tornado's or I will cancel.

The 'Ham Radio' is a major means of communication for the storm chase fraternity in the US.

For tornadoes, May/June 2006 was worse than the legendary poor season of 1988. But when the activity returns it will be a big show and I have a hunch 2007 will be a good season.
