Bushfires in NZ

Unread post by janewaystv »

Heard today that they are having bushfires in the South Island, in Otago/Southland, is it bad?

There was one in the Catlins which I presume has been dealt with - not sure about the Otago situation.

Bush fires in NZ would very seldom resemble the bush fires you get over there in OZ.
Worst case scenario here a couple of sheep get singed. :)

It certainly is very very dry.
Its been a long time since we had conditions like this.
No wonder there are fires ....but seemingly a mattress is involved :? :? :?
Its got me beat.

We've had a west/NW flow over us to end of August and the winter...
...of cource silly people light fires for burning off purposes, not forgetting we are in a early period of west to north-westerlies and higher then surface vegetation are proned to dry off rather than the foliage at ground level.....thickees
