Weather Station at Omarama

Unread post by jeffsweather »

Not sure if anyone is aware of this one...

I found a weather station at Omarama which is updated every minute at
http://www.observatory.org.nz/weather/o ... index.html

It's run in conjunction wirh the Benmore Peak Observatory. I see they have priced a link to the observatory from Telecom which was $20,000 to install to have the weather station on Benmore Peak at 1894 metres. That would have been interesting!

Hi John,

I found the Star article and have scanned it.

I've added a new menu item on my site "Local Weather Watchers", you can go directly to the page at
http://weather.northcott.co.nz/wxwatch/index.php

Any other input from Christchurch weather watchers can be added if they let me know.

Hi guys, I'm the manager of Benmore Peak Observatory, its weather stations, and the weather station at our office in Omarama township.

We spotted a hit from this site in the server logs. Fame at last! :-)

Just a note: the weather stations on the mountain are operational, but as yet I still haven't stabilised the WiFi link enough to take it live online. I hope to have this done by the end of next week.

Telecom estimated a figure of up to NZ$20k just to run the copper to the summit, a figure which is well outside of our budget. Hence the wireless link.

Our Omarama office weather station server has been having some ups and downs, but is now good to go. It should provide an uninterrupted supply of updated data.

Anyhoo, we're glad to have found this site!

Cheers!

:D Great to have weather recordings from Omarama, fantastic part of the South Island, also Dunedin which is a "cool" place.
Extremely hot conditions in Hanmer on Saturday where I spent the weekend,37 degrees on Sat afternoon.
Overcast with a cold Southerly in town here today, the 4.00pm Rakaia radar looks promising for rain.

We had a few spots of rain which mostly evaporated before they even hit the ground, but it's pretty grey, and rather cool right now, so there are a lot of farmers with crossed-fingers right now!
