Looks like Taranaki has had a lot of lightning in the last hour or two and a lesser amount out to the west of the NI.

Actually a fine looking morning here in Auckland with 17C but the front is not far away.

I think it's the most active Front I've seen out there but it's much weaker now. Still quite alot of Lightning on the tracker though.

Yes, an incredible amount of lightning out to sea overnight but these systems often fizzle a bit as they get near us. This front would have been more interesting if it came in late afternoon against daytime heating.

We may see a photogenic gust front with the arrival of the cooler air. :)

West Coast of the Sth Island was absolutly hammered last night with lightning, and looks like there is still a bit still lingering around.

Quite a bit of rain in Picton overnight, thunder as well. Now fine and sunny with rapidly reducing cloud cover - awaiting the southerly "dessert course".

Looks like a cooler day across the country today. I see its just 6C with rain in Christchurch this morning.

The air is unstable at lower levels over the North Island so we will get low topped cb's today with a scattering of showers.
