was that looking towards Taupiri?
as that might have been our hailer :)

i do remember now driving through hail that i thought was going to smash the windscreen on the car...and it did break off bits of plastic on the car...
May 1987 i think it was....from memory...

Good reports and photos guys. It looks like you had a very worthwhile trip. Attached is a map of yesterday's lightning (purple and blue crosses, grey ones were from earlier in the week (Tuesday?))

Very nice... will be getting a new camera by Friday! :)

Outlook is quite dry now, next thunder risk may be around the middle of next week by the ECMWF model?

Nice one kaimaikid,

Mine turned out really bad - too much red and not much light.

That sunset was stunning.

Have been following this thread and really like the pics!! You guy's certainly had more luck then we did down here on the 8th and 9th.

Great lightning NZstorm! And cool cloud pics others.

Would be nice to have a Waikato chase one day.

Thought it might have been a good TS season in Caterbury/Otago this year with the SouthWesterlies. We have had too much Ridging and dry air up here. It was good to have a Thundery afternoon Saturday as so many went out chasing.
Looks like some TS potential next week.

I've found in my couple years of stormchasing and looking at models that setups with SouthWesterlies arnt as productive as say Southerly situation.

Interesting report Brian. I'm sure that was from the storm that spwill and I were looking at late afternoon on the way back to Auckland.
