I notice some strong echoes on the radar this morning, out to sea west of Auckland and Northland. Looks like we are on the edge of some unstable weather. The Met Service see the ts risk for Northland as moderate today. Currently cloudy in Auckland so I don't have a view westward.

yes can spy some castellanus type mid deck clouds out west at the mo.

this usually points to instability from what i've read and seen

i need some rain to stretch the legs of me new rain gauge. I bought it the other day thinking that we would get some rain with last weeks T/S activity......but didnee get a drop!

I notice the 6pm Airport observation from Whangarei was reporting 'thunder to west'. So that cb mass over central Northland has been a bit thundery.

Just had a look at the Auckland radar from home. Very slow moving intense area of rain in a small area in south central Northland and a few lightning strikes there also. A lot of rain must have fallen there last few hours.
