Nice pics guys. Good to get something in the skies of Cantab today.

However I felt the storms were a little blazay if that makes any sense, no grrr to them. Just looking at the clouds it had that northwest look to them, not a NE before S change type storm. Upper air was definately cold but yeah.....things looked a little messy but cool to see none the less. :)

Cheers

Yes, lame compared to say the August 1999 storms. Still lucky to get any such thunderstorm activity in Canterbury this time of year.

They were only thundery showers after all which can be expected at this time of the year, as apposed to a thunderstorm which has more frequent lightning etc.
Better than nothing I say :D .

The NW winds were cold when they arrived here about mid-afternoon but it has milded up a bit since then.
Frost here this morning, down to ....well I'll put that up my blog.

Warm here with 18C at the moment and a fresh gusty NW, it was strong to gale force from 7am-11am but now its dropped abit. Should pick up again this afternoon as the rain band moves up the west coast, great place for thunderstorms head out west 8) .
First day of spring :D make the most of it because the more and more I look at this upcoming system the more interesting it gets 8) .
Cheers

What do you mean 8/8? I'd say cloud cover about 5/8, fair bit of sun getting through :)

At least it was warm down along the eastern coast of the South Island today with those northwest winds :)
Isn't it just great how a cold outbreak comes just when you are starting to enjoy the Spring temps... typical NZ

Cor, I don't mind. The thunder risk increases this time of year because of this although I don't want to see people crops damaged by hailstones.

Remember how you said this:
If you do want a thunderstorm to happen in Canterbury, the best thing to do is go away or not be here.
Doesn't look like you'll be hearing any thunder then! ;)
