What's all this got to do with the topic? which was for thunderstorms in the north island?Karshvardidgâh wrote:Temprature now 6.0C and seems to be steady,R.H.93% and still rising, getting strong gusts at times ,Baro still rising.
Looking like we'll only just have a couple of showers in Auckland tonight and strong winds - probably near zero chance of thunder.

Re: Thunderstorms 1st-3rd October
Oops
Well it originally said North Island but it must have been changed to suit the thundery weather up and down the country.
And I am not being "Auckland-centric" - its just theres only a bit of rain down there and no thunder - as usual
Just mentioned weather up here to keep on topic but thats all.

Re: Thunderstorms 1st-3rd October
Well it would have been silly to make another post for South Island thunderstorms which is why we all share.
Winds up to near gale force here around 50-60kmh and moderate falls of rain, Temperature 7C and dropping.
Still looks very changable on the horizon ahead so every chance counts as we dig deeper into October.
Cheers
Jason.

I've said it before that Ricky's boltek doesn't do very well getting the sferic distances correct down into the Waikato; I should have mine back running again properly soon. Ricky also has his squelch set to 2.David wrote:Auckland tracker shows no lightning down over Hamilton.
Oh, and Click here with lightning ticked and you'll see a few strikes recorded over the Waikato.

Re: Thunderstorms 1st-3rd October
Just come back in from Morris Dancing practice, (thanks to the TV3 slot on thursday we managed to get somepeople tome along)
Lots of tree/blossom rubbish on the roads.
Anyway a big gust of the SW about a quarter to 10 tonight just about lifting "The Little House on the Prairie" off it's foundations
Coming onto rain from then on with an associated as usual, temperature drop.
No thunder, or lightning flash well I lost interest this afternoon when the sky looked so unproductive.
Still very windy from the SW, because of the low

Re: Thunderstorms 1st-3rd October
What a wild night in Auckland - I'll take you through a tour:
2am - thunder and lightning to the north
3.30am - torrential downpour and very strong winds
5.30am - heavy shower with hail
6.50am - thunder loud with an almighty flash of light!
And its cold as well, only 8C with the gusty winds.
And yes I know this because I woke up every time from rain pounding my windows and so I am quite tired as a result.
Looks like we may have some more nasty stuff to get through today by the looks of the satellite loop.

Camera broken will have to draw a picture thin layer on the ground but will probably stop soon.

Re: Thunderstorms 1st-3rd October
Thinking it had been quite a thunderous year up here, I looked back through this year's stats - we've already had 16 days with thunder heard this year, and 35 days this year with rainfall totals of at least 10mm.
Wind is picking up here again now - and the ground is now saturated with another 8mm overnight.

The Canterbury Thunderstorms went north with the Ranfurly Shield
Woken twise last night by our stormy weather.
Some deep shower cloud with very cold air to the SE of NZ, not seen much of this this year. Good to hear it's snowing in Gore.
