snow lasting well in the remarkables

Unread post by southernthrash »

Cold conditions and regular snowfalls through late september and october have meant that the mountain ranges around the southern lakes have enjoyed excellent late season snow conditions this year. This is the time of the year when some of the serious big mountain lines are bagged by skiers and boarders, especially in the backcountry of the remarkables. http://snow.ginini.com/thumbnails.php?album=19&page=1 the link will take you to a gallery of pictures taken by an arrowtown local a couple of days ago up at remarkables. Just a shame there isn't the demand to keep the lifts running up there!

Similar in Canterbury - Alps have looked pretty white lately from Chch. Enough cold changes to counter-balance the warm northwesterlies. (and some west/northwesterlies still cold enough enough to dump white stuff in the mountains before they warm up and hit the Canterbury Plains)
