Re: Cold weather to start off November
Could be some moderate instability over Canterbury and Otago tomorrow, depending on how things pan out with heating in the morning and on-shore breezes in the light airflow, might be some towers going up in the afternoon.

No i say the storm season has begun.Jasestrm wrote:Some nice weak CU convection about today typical under a situation as this.
Great funnel cloud material provided you have an oppisite wind backing up against say a NE.
Looks rather quiet on the thunder front at the moment, although things dont usually pick up until about mid November anyway.
Cheers
Jason.
Even you said the real storm season starts around the 1st of November, so id have to go with melja on that one, we have gone past pre storm season and now we are into the real thing. Maybe you are pushing storm season further away and saying it hasn't begun due to only having a 1 storm, so I get the feeling u are making up awensers you want to hear?

You wrote on the 14/9/07 thisJasestrm wrote: storm season hasnt even got near to starting yet so its fair to say that the more active months are coming up perhaps.
The only reason we get excited about it is because of the rather pitaful winter we had to make up for it .
Cheers
Jason.
Its just my opinion that we dont get the storm seasons here in canterbury as we used to get in past years and this season so far is just not getting going either, maybe just not enough moisture around these daysJasestrm wrote: This is really great to see these chances appearing so early in the season even if they dont eventuate into much, perhaps meaning all those snow chances we had for winter will be replaced by thunderstorms this season coming starting from about early October .

Re: Cold weather to start off November
Yes pre storm season at the moment is what i mean with a marking of actual storm season starting around the 5th of November.
Why this date, because over the last 10 years thunderstorms have occured much more after the 5th of November.
Was it not only 2 years ago we had atleast 10 thunder days 3 of which were in a row around xmas, so who's to say its a gonner .
We shall see what the season brings us .
Cheers

Re: Cold weather to start off November
Could have some ok potential for thunderstorms this evening indeed with that heating NE breeze and some weak CU inland at the moment.
Red blotch showing up in the south canterbury foothills on the latest rain radar, some isolated development there perhaps. .
Cheers
Jason.

Re: Cold weather to start off November
Been raining and breezy and people still letting fireworks off in all directions.
Only a pathetic 2mm so far, hopefully there'll be a lot of rain tomorrow.

Re: Cold weather to start off November
Quite a wet day here.. constant drizzle which has turned to heavier rain now, 13.2mm so far today.
Looks as though quite a large area of heavy rain set to move over the AK area later on tonight.

Re: Cold weather to start off November
Thanks for that thought! Hopefully you're right! You are talking about heavy rain beyond the limits of the rain radar, aren't you?Foggy wrote:Looks as though quite a large area of heavy rain set to move over the AK area later on tonight.
