Well best part of 30mm since 7am this morning and its still belting down. On the back of 50mm on Monday, and more to come tomorrow with gales? I think its official, our drought is over
Temp dropping too, down to 9.5, chilly for Feb!

Freezing outside, our school is flooded in many places, same with our subdivision, still raining.
End of drought.

Reports of Heavy snowfalls in the Craigieburns are coming through. Still wet, still getting colder...imagine if this was a June-Aug event!

SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FOR OTAGO AND CANTERBURY
ISSUED BY METSERVICE AT 1139hrs 15-Feb-2008
ON SATURDAY RAIN COULD BE HEAVY AGAIN IN EASTERN CANTERBURY AND
POSSIBLY COASTAL HILLS OF OTAGO AND SOUTHWESTERLIES MAY REACH SEVERE
GALE ON OTAGO COAST AND BANKS PENINSULA
A slow-moving low southeast of Banks Peninsula is deepening. It has
brought welcome rain throughout Canterbury and north Otago with the
heaviest falls of 30 to 70mm on the Canterbury plains and eastern
foothills. The rain should ease to showers this afternoon but is
expected to become widespread in Canterbury and eastern Otago again
on Saturday morning. At this stage it looks unlikely to reach warning
criteria in the coastal hills of Otago but on Banks Peninsula and
parts of the Canterbury plains there could be a further 50 to 70mm
with the bulk of it falling over 6 to 9 hours from mid morning on
Saturday and forecasters will maintain a watch in the meantime.
The southwest flow over Canterbury and Otago is strengthening slowly.
Winds may reach severe gale gusts 110 km/h or more on exposed areas
of the Otago coast including the Otago Peninsula at times from about
midnight Friday to 9am Saturday and about Banks Peninsula from 9am to
9pm Saturday. These winds would have the potential to damage trees,
power lines and insecure roofs, and cause hazardous driving
conditions especially for high sided vehicles and motorcylists.
People are advised to keep up to date with weather forecasts in case
formal warnings are necesary.

Avon is well up today, and it's still raining intermittantly in central Chch. Webcams show fresh snow on mountains above Castle Hill and Tekapo, and at Cadrona.

Re: Heavy rain Canterbury 15 and 16 Feb
looks to be 4 to 5 days of canterburys high pressure crud and low cloud stuck under that high, you can see it on the sat pics.
But may get some warm afternoons if it breaks up long enough.
