not sure which thread to post to, LOL
anyway, very slow moving heavy showers in a unstable SW flow over the upper NI is bringing falls of 5mm or more from each passing shower, because of the slow moving (if you get a shower, they are a bit sporadic!)

Really? A few years ago there was fog here where I could see our neighbours houses but beyond that it was just white! ie. about 50m visibility!

Only some mist here this morning which has mainly cleared now, we had 1mm overnight from a weak shower line. (was expecting more)

managed to get 2.2mm here in one decent overnight shower.. looks like some clear sky before dawn caused a pretty rapid cooling and yes some pretty thick fog here :)

We will get the event as always up here unlike some areas desperately needing it ie the southern lakes.

It's 6.3 °C right now and increasing, along with the humidity. That's probably what's left of the snow evaporating. There's some cloud about so perhaps we're going to get rain. It'll be good for the lakes!

Yep, definitely looking like some non-frozen, falling moisture on the way: temp now 7.6 °C; humidity at 76% and the weather station is forecasting rain.

Great for the lakes!

Alas, I can see blue sky now from my office. Possibly no rain for us, now. Maybe in the Divide, but I don't think it'll fall here. Another dry winter looms, but the changing climate should ensure a steady year-round supply of rainfall.

Great for the lakes!

I was wrong and a light, warm rain has been falling all evening. It's slightly less warm at 2,000m ASL but not close to being sleet even at altitude. The few patches of snow which have lingered in shady spots will be well gone by sunrise, unless a very cold airmass happens to drop by for a visit overnight.

Of course, this is all great for the lakes!

Excellent stuff, we wouldn't want to employ South Islanders to fill the lakes with buckets in chain gangs would we. We *need* that power! ;)
What did you mean that the weather station is forecasting rain? Trend forecasts don't go out for many stations around the country.

Just 5/16" (8mm) over last 24 hrs and now a beautiful autumn evening orange and deep blue sky. Still mild weather, winds have been generally less that 15km/hr and all the leaves are where they fell - a massive orange and tan carpet... isn't autumn glorious. Been outside working hard today and should have used the camera!! If its still fine on Wednesday, I will then.
