I think there was some fault in Timaru today, as it would be about 15ºc today down there, like here.
I don't thnk ChCh was 17ºc, too high????

Re: June
I got to 16C here this morning with a rather warm sunshine peeking through before the upper level arrived, although it was still 14C at 6pm.
Certainly much warmer today compared to exactly 2 years ago on this day when we had a snowstorm and 0C until midday.
It will be interesting to see when the next cold blast arrives, perhaps before the end of this month and maybe the following week after the next run of warm NWer's bringing snow to very low levels again.
But lets not speak of the devil too early aye.
Cheers
Jason.

Concrete surfaces do tend to get damp this time of year when nights are colder, even when there's no frost. (like this morning)Err did it rain overnight in Chrstchurch? When I got up this morning the driveway was wet.. And the footpaths and grass too
-2C dawn, then northwest arch high cloud moved in during the morning. Another dip in the rollercoaster ride that's been Timaru's thermometer lately.edit: Timaru has a high of 8 today, Christchurch 17 and oamaru was 18? Whats with Timaru?

Re: June
The temperatures are still reading a little cooler for Timaru, well out at Levels, than what should be expected with the current weather situation. Only 5ºC at 6pm.
I wonder what the botanical garden readings for Timaru are for today?
It would be interesting if they compared to be the same or similar at Levels?

Re: June
My theory regarding the temperature readings taken at Timaru Airport is that the temperature sensor is set up too close to the ground. This would explain colder temps at night and hotter temps on the sunny days in summer. Dunedin Airport has the same problem also. The temperatures are still reading a little cooler for Timaru
Re: June
Is that even possible? Stevenson screens and their setup are pretty standardised and something like that would not have slipped away un-noticed for so long.NZstorm wrote:My theory regarding the temperature readings taken at Timaru Airport is that the temperature sensor is set up too close to the ground. Re: June
Looking at the snow cams i see that Coronet is closed and they seem to have lost a lot of snow.
Also a nice mild June morning....no frosts for a number of days.

Re: June
Isn't the grass temperature cooler by two reasons? The ground temp can be holding a frost temp from earlier and if there is a lot of condensation and a slight breeze, then you will get evaporative cooling and a stratified temperature depending on height and breeze strength? So elevation will play a part in this.

Re: June
Sure was abit of strong gusty NWer last night with gusts averaging 40 gusting 60kmh, definatly stronger than the predicted winds last friday.
I noticed it was 16C at midnight in Christchurch too, currently 17C with little to no wind and lots of spill over cloud from the west.
Wouldnt surprise me if it rains soon.
Cheers
Jason.
