Now raining out near Akaroa with the temperature falling. Should be an interesting trip back to Chch tomorrow morning.

Re: Yet...another cold Weekend
Just was at a friend's place in Little River...could see the initial southerly coming over Ellesmere...very dark clouds...no camera, so no pics, sorry...judging by the latest radar pic, it's what I saw...glad I got back to CHCH when I did!
Yeah, the latest numbers (and that's all they are...numbers) look good for snow to sea level for CHCH...the sat loops here:
http://amrc.ssec.wisc.edu/realmovie.html
(warning: high bandwidth required to view the above movies!)
...show the wintry blast coming straight off the Antarctic continent...gonna be a cold one, that's for sure! And looks to be lasting right thru to late Tues arvo...I suspect we won't see the snow here in CHCH until Monday arvo/evening...but then again, who knows? Could be nothing at all, but I really do think we'll see snow, for the fourth time this year...the question now, is...how much?

How much? Heaps! ( Wishful thinking )
Looks like it'll be raining over BP soon.
Hope BP doesn't take all the bad weather

Re: Yet...another cold Weekend
Holy!! Look at the latest GFS run for 6hrs for CHCH. Showing 91.2mm with 3 consecutive periods of 20mm plus in 6 hr periods. Not from this system but something late next week and into the weekend. I reckon its just one of those fluke runs though. Black skies overhead now, waiting for heavens to open, im thinking some hail in amoung this.

the forecast charts over at metvuw are also showing something like that for next weekend, looks like it won't last too long though.

Re: Yet...another cold Weekend
The rain has ceased for now (but still overcast) - I can see a fresh light dusting of snow above about 500m.

Re: Yet...another cold Weekend
I disagree they take the "conservative approach" Mark. That puts lives at risk. I think you'll find they look at the data and give the best advice/forecast they can.MarkThomas wrote:yes but if u go to 'brief forecast they are saying to 100m tomorrow. Also the heavy snow warning says lesser falls down to 100m. So we are seriously looking at sea level as real possibility. They take the conserative approach

Re: Yet...another cold Weekend
well at this stage GFS models would suggest very heavy rain lol, but im sure its a fluke run.
