Re: Low to cross country early week of 11th-15th Aug'
Well said Razor!
Is it the heavist frost in Christchurch this winter? Some reports of an 8 or 9 degree frost in some areas.
So much ice about and I see some snow remaining on the hill suburbs and other areas of the Port Hills too. Looks good behind glass!
The weekend not looking quite so sunny and frosty though...

Re: How cold is it where you are.
Two vehicles ended up in the harbour this morning. Sadly its a one way trip normally for vehicles.
A colleague who cycled in said there was formed ice on the harbour in sheltered places.
Its a cold one when salt water freezes.

Well it got down to 3 here before dawn, even though it counts as a wet night (4mm overnight).
Is that -0.06 or -0.6 or -6?Janos wrote:Down the bay...-.06.

This morning the temp was -.06 (at my weather station) but it must have been much colder for the salt water
to freeze in the harbour.

Re: How cold is it where you are.
Good to see you there with a posting, Janos
It was minus 3.4ºc here in West Melton, this morning, with a possibility of a nearly 7ºC frost on the ground. I did have a grass thermometer but a horse galloped over it and broke it.
I usually add about 3 to 4 degrees to the screen minimum for a grass reading.

At Tawa we had our coldest temperature for the year this morning, reaching 0.4 ºC at 05:19.
It was colder on the valley floor where they had a crispier start to the day.

Re: How cold is it where you are.
My 24hr FARS temperature sensor and Stevenson Screen temp sensors both reported a record low for the Pinehaven Station of -1.8C on the 21st August. It was -2.0 to -2.5C lower down the in the valley towards Silverstream I believe. Pretty cold for Upper Hutt, (especially at our elevation) although not really comaprable with lows in the Deep South!

Re: How cold is it where you are.
Not cold at all here. Would be the warmest day of the winter so far . Nice little cu that look like the ones you see in summer. Sun has a good bite to it and the wind isnt cold. Even when the sun dips behind the clouds it isnt cold. Im very comfortable in tshirt and stubies. very nice day. makes me realise how much i have missed nice days like this with the run of wild weather we have had.

Re: How cold is it where you are.
Nah, that honour would undoubtedly belong to July 19th, with Akld T-maxs around 19°C.j--me--h wrote:Would be the warmest day of the winter so far .
And the highest T-min would probably have been June 15-16th, with temps around 15°C.

Re: How cold is it where you are.
Average max temp in August for AK is 15C but temps here seldom stray very far from the average.
EC moves a High slowly from the South Tasman to the south east of the SI next week, the like's of Gisborne might be in for a long spell of cloud, rain/showers.
