Not long after my post this morning the NW wind really picked up for awhile with some even stronger gale force winds around 70kmh.
SW change came through around 4pm sometime i believe with a few showers developing in some areas, only a few light spots here though.
Looks like a line which is marking the cold front is sitting out in South Canterbury at the moment intensifying every hour as it moves north on the rain radars.
Hopefully a good splash of rain as we really do need it.
Cheers
Jason.

Some local heavy rain just north of Timaru due to a slow moving narrow rain band.
Already turned cooler in Chch 11C, dp 5C.

The southerly last night brought a few very light showers that werent even suffcient enough to move jeffs weather station from 0.0mm to 0.2mm! Looking like a few days of fine and cloudy periods with NE prevailing. However staying dry with just a 50/50 chance of overnight drizzle tonight. MOnday may get a bit of rain spread from the west but then again we were meant to get that with the low just been and that didnt evenuate so looking like warm dry blustery conitions next sun-tues! Do we start to get a little concerned now? Well the word drought is definately looking more realistic! Looks like its mid and north Canterbury in a little trouble only with Malborough getting some good rain in the last front.
