Awesome pictures Lacertae!!
Just noticed was a strong NE here 10 minutes ago a nice convergence over the port hills then turned S and now no wind at all, and i reckon its got a tad unstable out to by looking S as the sun fades.

Nice video Andrew, pity the rain and hail moved in as soon as we saw it, and so early into the chase ment that I was expecting funnels everywere!!
Also good to see your pics lacertae, always love to see another view of a storm. I tend to get right into the middle of them so dont really get to always see the structure of storms.

Another video, this one quite a long one of the hailstorm with the big hail (apologies for poor editing and wind noise), videoed just North of Ashburton:

Where did you film this ? Between Rakaia and Ashburton, or on your way back from Christchurch ?

Ben, good man your on a Mac good choice and great movie!
Im sure you not missing the viruses hehehe
I love it how youv captured the convergence, In not sure how you can do this but on you camera you set it up to take pics every 3 minutes and you join all the pics together and make a time-lapse they are awesome.
Was that 1, or was it video speeded up a bit (looking at the movie 5x is it?)
Anyway great shoot!

Re: Unstable weekend ahead, 17-18th Jan!!!
I've just used the "faster" video fx on iMovie, nothing else. I would like to try the .gif way which would use far less space on my memory card when I'm chasing ... but I don't really know how to assemble all the pics together in this case.Tornado Tim wrote:I love it how youv captured the convergence, In not sure how you can do this but on you camera you set it up to take pics every 3 minutes and you join all the pics together and make a time-lapse they are awesome.

Re: Unstable weekend ahead, 17-18th Jan!!!
That video you put up Lacertae doesnt work for me for some reason.
Yes that hail is a fine example of what me and mike encountered with less than 1km of the road just whiteout with hail up to pebble size.
I would love to put my video on here but i think my transfer camera port is buggerd as when i go to play or record it say on movie maker it has no sound or picture on the computer.
I have tried all settings on the computer and camera ie USB stream mode is on etc.
Cheers
Jason.

Re: Unstable weekend ahead, 17-18th Jan!!!
Thanks all you guys for the great feedback! Glad I could share it with you! It's so awesome to go see these things with people who are all excited by the same extreme weather!
I seriously can't thank Aaron and 03 enough for their ability to get us where the real action was!
Edit: GREAT video Lacertae! I was just telling Aaron tonight that Apple's movie editor is WAY better than Windows Movie Maker!

Re: Unstable weekend ahead, 17-18th Jan!!!
The video is a .mp4 which should be ok on Quicktime. The only thing is your internet browser may not have the quicktime player plugin installed, therefore you can't play the video ...
Anyway, it's just a few clouds and some stormy weather on it, nothing else.

Well ... I was quite disappointed when, half way through the video project, the software crashed because MacOS X couldn't handle all the threads of the video processing ... lost everything, had to restart from the scratch ! And in the end, I couldn't do all what I wanted : for example I didn't find how to add a third line of text on the title screens (I wanted to add the "5x real time" comment with the time screen).GREAT video Lacertae! also, if you guys are like me, and detest the quicktime codec.. try quicktime alternative, an open source .mov codec, without the bloat.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/qui ... native.htm
there is also a realplayer alternative codec
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Rea ... native.htm
i use both, couldnt be happier
