Subtropical Low for Northern/Central New Zealand (8th-9th)

Unread post by CHCH Weather Chaser »

Last 3 model runs have consistently been showing a subtropical low to affect the Major Part of the North Island and some central areas as well! A high out to the east of New Zealand of 1040hpa plus, keeps the system squeezed for quite some time. One to keep a very close eye on!

Spring to continue here in Christchurch though with Northerly flow for some time with the brief flick tomorrow. May get some Northeasterly rain when the subtropical low affects the north on the fringe of it but yes fine milder weather to keep on coming!

Yes, looks like a moist NE flow spreads over the country with a wet weekend possible for many areas. GFS suggests heavy falls and strong winds for northern regions. Yes, something to watch in the models.

Most of the models ive just looked at show a simular situation of a moist N-NE flow covering most of the country with some good steady falls even for Canterbury.
By looking at it at the moment looks like a very stationary weak low pressure system wedged out in the Tasman, and could last for longer than the 8-9th.
Canterbury, home of good rugby and severe storms

I saw that on my forecast coming up, the rain values were high but now they have jumped back down to around 20mm for 24 hours starting on the 9th.
I have attached my Wx-sim forecast graph for reference.
Happy Birthday Brian, hope you have a great day!!!!!
I wonder if you wife is going give you something meteorological?
