General August Weather
I wonder if the atmosphere will be co-operative and give me my b-day present of a thunderstorm for today?
However I have asked that in the past and I never got 1.....

Thanks Ricky and Brian.
I see your Birthday is coming up on the 4th Brian.
2 days difference.
I will wait and see if it comes true or not, LOL

Re: General August Weather
18Z run of gfs suggests some marginally unstable air out to west of Waikato by 6pm with that front. Maybe a few flashes making it to the coast for Tim!

Re: General August Weather
Looks interesting midweek for Northland as a very little and i mean very little area of low pressure gets stuck over the area with heavy intensity!! For 2 -3days by the looks of it. Looking dry in Canterbury as far as the eye can see with the exception of brief westerly flick which wont bring more than a few sports i would imagine.

Lovely mild NW as far as the eye can see, as Mark says.

Re: General August Weather
A mild 15 -16C here today, right on average for Auckland.
Looks like a NE flow will develop over NZ later in the week as preasure starts to fall to the north.
A few lightning strikes west of Auckland/Waikato in the last hour on that shower line moving in.

Flowering cherries all over the place are in full bloom, ours have had flowers from about 2 weeks ago!
Am looking forward to some warmer days....though August probably peaks around 18-19C for Auckland?

Re: General August Weather
No squall here, just some very heavy rain as it passed over, giving 4mm rain.

This front is coming across now is causing flooding around Upper Hut! Some roads have been closed because of the extent of the flooding.

Re: General August Weather
Unfortunately next weeks easterly flow could be a SW in reverse for Auckland. Hopefully the Coromandal can shelter Auckland from the worst of the cloud/showers.

It seems we will be having a East breeze for bit looking at the GFS and wxsim.

Re: General August Weather
Beautiful clear day here with a 3.2° low, but could see the top of Mt Wellington (central Auckland) sticking out of fog in the distance around 9.20am (it's about 135m elevation I think)

Another beautiful day here.
After being included in the recent publicity (over beach water making dogs ill), local Eastern Beach is unusually void of people and dogs this weekend!

Re: General August Weather
Currently in Hamilton. Was a very nice calm morning but since then the wind has picked up significantly from the east and its starting to cloud over. went from a 5km/h wind to 35km/h in about an hour. Even managed -0.4 last night if i remember correctly.
