Interview with the Waikato Times
I am getting a interview with the Waikato times on my weather station on the 18th of August.
I am quite shocked that the Waikato times contacted me about it.
The guy that contacted me said it will be a picture based article so youl probably see my friendly face in the paper in the environmental section.
Ill let you guys know what paper it will be coming out in.
I am soo stoked that they are doing a picture article, I never thought I would be in the paper LOL.
Just thought Id let you guys/gals know and when to look out for it.

Watch out you'll have TV there next! I'm amazed at how much interest there is in weather enthusiasts, so far I've had newspaper, magazine and TV articles for greylynnweather
I hope we can get to see it online..

Re: Interview with the Waikato Times
The interview went really really well!
They took about 20-30 pictures, it gets really hard to hold your smile while the photographer waits for the sun to show up in the background, LOL
Took about 30-45 min to do the whole thing.
They even want my opinion when Waikato Weather events pass through in the future, HAHA!

Re: Interview with the Waikato Times
The online weather stations are a great resource and a credit to all those who set them up. Its the only source of real time surface obs we get really. The Met Service 3 hrly thing isn't as useful. Hopefully a lot more online weather stations are set up. I would operate one myself but Ricky's weather station is nearby so this area is covered.

Re: Interview with the Waikato Times
The article is expected to be around 50cm long and i think the tone will be around "Weather stations are coming down in cost, making more people to get interested in the weather around them" - This is only my thought on what tone of the story will be based on what the reporter told me.
He has gathered more comments from other people (such as Bob from Metservice and so on....) to make the article more substantial so that article can be bit longer, LOL.
He is expecting the article to be in the Saturday Paper (Not Confirmed).
Hopefully they took a good picture of me,

Re: Interview with the Waikato Times
Well its in the paper, LOL
For your reference the page number is A13.
I am glad the article came out like it did, although there was a minor spelling mistake and it said i got it from the UK which they might of heard me wrong. Oh well Minor issue (hardly worth mentioning)

Good stuff.
Any article that brings attention to what you and others are doing is good.
What is particularly good is this one, in my opinion, may make others interested enough to do it too, it gives the impression it's reliable inexpensive technology which is great.

Yes, an interesting read. Web cams can be a great addition to these weather stations. I often look at the Raglan weather cam.

Re: Interview with the Waikato Times
LOLMr Hamilton began experimenting with an old Commodore VIC-20 computer, originally connected to an electric fence
I said that the electric fence blew up the old Vic 20
it was not actualy connected to the electric fence....but we did use the fence wires to get the data from the top of a hill.....and it was induced voltage that was the problem..LOL
but that will do!

Re: Interview with the Waikato Times
Good one Tim!! And good references to yourself and Peter there Brian! And also the further developments. It sounds like they have interviewed you briefly too! Half page article, a good broad aspect of modern technology being affordable and providing valuable data when displayed on websites. And that the public take notice - as NZStorm said - it is live and local and relevant! Whereas the Metservice data is gapped and hourly or so.
I know my site is hit by the Weather Networks including MS every day. We give them valuable local conditions when they do not have anything in the region.

Hello Tim
A great article - and, I am certain your family and friends must be very proud of you young man. May you be an inspiration for the younger generation who have a interest in weather (smile) I diffinately will be showing my young son the article
I can only imagine that over your lifetime you will have a wonderful circle of friends who in likekind share the same enthusiatic interest in weather - My wish and hope for you is to go chase those storms and to live your dreams.
Take care.
