back in auckland now. yes, Cb's popping up all over the waikato today - great timing for me but yet not strong enough to start sparking - still nice to look at!

That photo is very interesting, you can see the SW flow blow the backend of the cloud towards you.
I am surprised the thing is soo dormant atm (perhaps not enough temperature variation in the cloud)

the clouds today have been a bit too "soft edged", i.e not punchy, hard edged looking
i.e the updrafts have not been all that strong...hence the lack of lightning activity

Can see them,as theres hardly a cloud in the sky now,mostly the cloud off the tops ,dont have a good view to the east here.Remember in the 80s used to see buildups and they got "easterly blowouts" on the coromandel ranges all summer.
