Is it the one talked about on Saturday with the dry air pushing into the cold tasman air?

Alas it does look cold for eastern areas again about Sunday.

MarkThomas wrote:I see metservice forecasting snow to 500m in the deep south on Friday but to 300m in Canterbury. Looks like some decent rain Friday at this stage so the chance of heavy snow above 300m for the hill country and plains. May see some sleet on the hills. Also, a big area of polar air brewing in the southern ocean that may hit parts of the south in a weeks time. Long way out though.
The severe weather outlook now has heavy snow with low confidence at this stage (due to 3-4 days away) for Waiouru and Central North Island Areas and for Canterbury, mainly inland.

The brother and I went up Pirongia earlier on.. quite a hike. But totally majestic views and a bit of snow left, even enough to make a snowman!

Still snow visible to about 150m below the summit of Mt Te Aroha at about 6.30pm as I came home from Auckland this afternoon.

Front page of the BOP Times showed snow on the Kaimais this morning.

That snowman must be one of the few that have ever been built in Waikato, well done LOL. I certainly enjoyed my taste of winter down there. That storm was a good mix of subtropical moisture and cold air, the worst of it over the regions east and south of Mt Ruapehu. West of Ruapehu including Whakapapa and National Park largely missed it!

Hello, winter in spring time and no doubt being that it is the last week of the school holidays... it look's like the youngsters (your children/grandchildren(?) are enjoying the snow, great stuff.

I have an 9 y/o son who's never seen the snow and has always wished to see it... oneday... he will - take care.

edit reasons - corrected my son's age from 8 - he turned 9 years old a couple of weeks ago.

It'll be interesting to see how many record low (for October) maximums there were recorded during this event. I see (from Rotorua Daily Post) that Rotorua recorded a 7.6C max on the 5th, coldest since records began at that station in 1964. NIWA report for month will no doubt show some more records.
