Warm start to November! (Especially in the East)
Looks like at least the first 4 days of November will bring late spring like temperatures with highs for Christchurch of 21, 23(despite a brief sw change), 22 an 24 respectively. Thursday and Friday looks like periods of Norwesters too! We look like we are going back to the cycle we had in parts of August when we thought we were having a early spring. NW should be rather common now.

Re: Warm start to November! (Especially in the East)
Yes it will be nice to have a return to warmer temperatures, wouldnt be surprised if temperatures budge over 25C at some point.
Last year i think on cup day there was brief thundery showers about with a NW/SW change later on from memory.
We can afford to have some NW days after all the rain we have had, fire risks down and green pastures.

Stunning morning here in CHCH already 20.5 degrees with a very light wsw around 3 to 5km/h. If winds stay light mid 20's on cardstoday. Blue dome skies! Real feel more like 24 or 25 atm.
Now 23.2 degrees.

Re: Warm start to November! (Especially in the East)
An afternoon northeasterly has kicked in here, not too fresh but the temp is down to 18.5 degrees now. Wednesday is the day to watch for a high temp. Late 20's possible I would think.

Re: Warm start to November! (Especially in the East)
Quite a warm morning certainly with a breezy Southerly for about half an hour, then switched to NE this afternoon.
Plenty of CU going up inland and there was also a convergence line running from south to west of BP, this would indicate the NE/Southerly i would think.
Looks alot better inland today compared to yesterday, surprised there's no thunder risk as some of those tops inland look reasonable so far.

Tomorrow's high now 27 forecast by the metservice. I see Blue skies are forecasting Thunderstorms, they have the thunderstorm icon which i think it the first time I have seen that.

Re: Warm start to November! (Especially in the East)
Blustery NW has kicked in here over the past half hour or so. Plenty of cloud, hardly any blue sky and the temp rising quickly. If we get sunshine hours today with blue dome skies then high 20's is certain. At the moment sitting on 16 degrees. Risen 4 degrees in last 15-20mins.

Re: Warm start to November! (Especially in the East)
It was sure nice to see a spectacular NW arch today, havnt seen a good one like that in awhile.
However i certainly liked the fact the sun stayed behind the high cloud all day until 4pm, otherwise working in the heat would have been a struggle after average temperatures of latly.
27C the Maximum and still warm on 25C currently, thats the highest temperature we have had here this spring/summer season so far.
Too dry for thunderstorms i would think, although i did see some CU trying to get going south of Christchurch around 4pm.

Very cold southerly blowing now - messy cloud on the southern horizon - think I'll get some wood in!

Re: Warm start to November! (Especially in the East)
Interesting weather out there at the moment, wind went southerly around 6pm then around to the easterly.
Now its back to breezy NW with a low-mid stratus/cumulus cloud developing above me swirling etc.
