Nasty depression

Unread post by TonyT »

The depression forecast to deepen over and east of the Ni on Monday and Tuesday could bring a very strong southerly quarter flow over the NI and possibly Marlborough. Model forecast 10m winds of gale force and stronger are appearing for Wellington/Wairarapa area, which suggests to me potentially storm force winds through Cook Strait and possibly widespread gales for much of the NI. The slow movement of the low (with winds not peaking till later on Tuesday) could mean very heavy swells on the east coast. Definitely one to keep an eye on...

yup!
about time we got some real exciting weather!
the moisture/warm air from the TC near new caledonia, which is now moving more SE by the looks as the front in the tasman interacts could help develop a real bomb just to the east of the NI.....as you say tony

0900Z radar shows alot of heavy rain over Northland. Looks like we should get a good soaking in Auckland too, overnight.

Cool Steven!
Is scenes like what you have photographed a common site during thunderstorm / unstable season up north, which I guess is a few months either side of now.

Cheers
