A very high windrun reading
I have some summary data for 2008 which shows that at Southwest Cape (the windiest of the stations that currently provides monthly averages/totals in NIWA's database), in the 24 hours to 9am on 3 October 2008, the windrun was 3159km. That equates to an average speed of 132kph, or 82mph. The highest value I'd previously seen was 2726km at Baring Head in February 2004.
