No car
I have some experience on the bike (that's bicycle, not motorbike) in storms, and have a nice hidey hole place out past Mcleans island where I can take shelter and watch the action

I might change my mind later on, but I think I'll head somewhere around Leeston and will travel north/south from there. I will keep in touch by phone.
But first I'll have a wee drive on Summit Road just to get the feeling of the day.
Come on sky, bring a nice waterspout or something !!!

Some very nice CU blowing up West & SW of Christchurch city right now, looks very well defined and hard edged. Now just need this low lying stuff to burn off so the view isn't impeded.

Very consistent weather out there for the last hour and a half with temp stable around 16.5-16.8 and a 20-30km.h NE. Cu still to the SE and WSW of the city. Metservice now changed their definition of the forecast as below.
"Today
Max 16°C
MIN 7°C

The severe thunderstorm risk envelope have been changed to moderate risk. It would be interesting to hear from Paul Mallinson with his updates and such.

Severe TS watch out now.
"Some of these may be severe from early afternoon, with localised heavy rain, and hail of 15-25mm diameter. These thunderstorms may be slow moving, which means hail could last a significant length of time in a few places leading to some unusually deep hail accumulations....There is also a risk of a few small tornadoes near coastal Canterbury in the late afternoon or evening."
Take care

Me and 03 departing in t minus 15 min. He just had to do some work this morning which is fair enough. Think we'll head Ashburton way as usual.
Wouldn't you know that after a faithfull 5 to 6 years with my Nikon 5700 the day it dies is the day I first use my new camera..... a sign.... thankyou 5700 for your years of service.... lol.
