Re: Possible thunder, upper NI, 8th
Looks like a shower setup to me.
Biggest chance of Thunder (even though its low) would be around Coromandel when the NW flow will hit the Coromandel Ranges which will cause an orographic lift.
When the left overs of this front moves over (early to mid afternoon) it will start to hinder any decent DTSH and temperatures will start to cool down.

Well the SW breeze has just been replaced by an ENE breeze here, so the sea breeze convergence looks certain. It has done this the last few days but without instability nothing much came of it...

We did get some instability around Auckland this afternoon with isolated cb showers to the south. Temp got to 26C today so not a bad day.

Re: Possible thunder, upper NI, 8th
Have missed much of the rain here of late, another dry day, 18C dewpoints making the day feel very warm.
Towering Cu/ Cb observed west and south this afternoon, perhaps if we had less high cloud today we will have heard thunder here.

30mm so far. was not expecting this at all. helps to shorten the difference between Tim and i for the year albeit only 20mm but its something.

Re: Possible thunder, upper NI, 8th
it was a shame that storm wasnt more active in the thunder department.
it was hit or miss last night. we got 33mm, our neighbours got 33mm but 1 km away got 41mm. In taupiri they got 22mm. towards morronsville they got 2mm. Tim got 8mm and hamilton 3mm.

Would this be the offending cell?
I snapped it from here (with stink cellphone - camera is unservicable atm..) around 1920 as it was cycling into mature phase.
The 2 overshoots had some of the best pileus I have seen in a few years roaring off the top of them & timelapse certainly wasnt required as you could see the whole thing unfolding before your eyes. Even the missus who just thought it was a 'pretty cloud' commented on how fast it was growing.
Within 10mins it was smothered by low level junk but im sure whatever was under it got a nice drink.
For info's sake.. Bombay service centre is to the left of frame & Pukke hill to the right.

Re: Possible thunder, upper NI, 8th
nice storm there!
signs of instability around today, but not quite enough for anything spectacular - just showers in places.
