NZ Modis Sat Image Subset
After having a chat with NASA's Modis team they have made a NZ subset for the MODIS images
Anyone who looks at NASA's Modis site would have noticed that it is hard to get a picture of NZ as a whole.
Now all you need to do is visit this site: http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subs ... NewZealand to get a pic of NZ as a whole in hi-res!
These images are truly fantastic as you can zoom up heaps when you step into 250m pixel resolution!
A very big Thank you to the Team at NASA who provide these hi-res images free of charge and being so kind as to add NZ as a subset!

Thanks for organising that Tornado Tim, a big well done. Those pics are outstanding. I don't look at the modis much but will from now on.

Thanks Tim, there is something peculiarly satisfying about being able to identify a particular individual cloud on a satellite image and think, yes, I saw that one up in the sky earlier on.

Good on you Tim !
Their projection is a wee bit weird but apart from that the quality is as good as the former Dunedin subset.

Well done organising that.
I have seen them before but it was always a bit of a pot shot getting one over NZ.

Yeah great stuff Tim! Likewise it was hard getting a suitable fix browsing all the images that's up on there.

That's really useful Tim. Thanks a lot for organising it. I think a lot of people will enjoy those images.

They update 1ce a day. But there are 2 satellites the Terra 1 and Aqua 1, The terra satellite passes through first then the AQUA satellite later on.Richard wrote:Wow they are really impressive photos, how often do they update them?
The Aqua satellite is the 1 to look at if you want to see thunderstorms developing
